You Pay For What You Get

jenniferbathurstqu

Hello, again! This topic is always a tricky one, so I want to start off by saying, I value your decision on how to spend your money. It is a finite resource and we all have choices to make on where it goes and I do not take for granted any client that I have. The 'profit' I make from your t-shirt quilt helps to pay for classes, therapies, medication, and experiences for my kids. For those of you that are just finding me, I have 7, 2 are bio and 5 are adopted. Our family is big and loud and mostly fun, but we do have some challenges, as we all do with our kids! I have been able to combine my passion and skills with the ability to earn some income to help our family. I will always try to support small businesses over giant retail. I appreciate every single client!

Now for the details! On more than one occasion, I have received messages from others about how they hired someone that has taken years to get to their quilt, the product they got back was not what they were expecting - either by look or quality, or they wish they had gone a different route. These are your memories and at this point in the process it is often too late or too expensive to fix!

Despite my methods for either the block quilt or collage quilt (which are the same every time), no two finished quilts are the same. I use high quality products in your quilt so that you have a high quality product in return. Some of the things that go in to making the quilt are stabilizer, batting, fabric, thread, needles, rulers, machines, etc. My margins would be bigger if I used the cheapest materials, but I want to produce something for you that will last. My quilts are made so that they can be used and washed and dried. I use materials that are trusted within the quilting community.

As I mentioned in a previous blog post (see here), some of the items in your quilt will need an extra charge. I do not want that charge in everyone's quilt - why pay for a service you don't need. The same is for backing fabric. The base price includes cotton, which is a great choices and used often, but if you choose to do minky or something similar for a cozier feel, there will be an additional charge. I try to be transparent and give an exact price before I start of your quilt.

Until next time,

Jennifer
